As much as I love getting my hands on amazing designer brand makeup, there is always something so satisfying about using drugstore makeup that turns out to be better than the expensive alternatives. This is why I have put together an easy makeup look using all drugstore products! See below for my favourite products and why!
This primer is a great way to save money on something that puts a little bit of glow back into your skin. I use this primer underneath my foundation, as it blurs pores and fine lines, as well illuminating the face with small hints of shimmer.
This Maybelline Fit Me foundation is excellent. It is the matte + poreless version. I believe there is a dewy version as well, maybe another too. I actually tend to mix this in with more liquid foundations to thicken them up, or I use it on its own. Its an awesome foundation and I highly recommend it. It blends really well and offers medium coverage.
I swear this post isn’t sponsored by Maybelline, they just have amazing drug store products! I use these two concealers, the lighter for concealing and highlighting, and the darker for contouring. I really love the consistency of these concealers, as they are not too thick but have excellent coverage. They blend really well with other foundations too. The darker tone is great for contouring, as it has asher tones to it, rather than orange. Some people say they are a dupe for the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, but I think these are a little less thick in consistency.
I love this powder, more than words can describe, actually. This is my second one I have bought. I even tried the Hourglass Ambient Light powder, hated it and returned it and went back to the drug store to buy this. It holds makeup perfectly, prevents creasing and movement of any liquids, creams etc. throughout the day, and prevents oil from coming about. It is the perfect pressed powder, and I would recommend this to anyone with any type of skin. There are other version of the powder, but this is my favourite!
I have heard mixed reviews about this bronzer, but I love the Bourjois chocolate bronzer. It comes in a great compact, it smells delightful, and I think it has great payoff. Swatched on my hand, it doesn’t provide the greatest example, but when I use it on my face with a powder brush, it gives me an all over even bronze and is not streaky. I love how it makes my skin look, and I have had this bronzer for a few months now, use it everyday, and I have barely made a dent in it!
At first, I didn’t know what to think of this palette (available at Shoppers Drug Mart, but not online with them), but the more I started using it, the more I started loving it! I use the second shade from the left on the bottom row to contour (haven’t been heavily contouring lately), and then I actually dip my bronzer/powder brush into all the bronze colours and bronze the out side of my face (temples, chin, forehead etc.). It gives a really great subtle contour without going all out! I have used the banana shade for setting my concealer, no complaints there, but I like the Rimmel powder better. I have also used the top left shade for highlighting. It is a white ice colour that has subtle shimmers in it. I even use the bronze colours as eyeshadows when I just want a little bit of depth in the crease or on the lid of my eye.
When I am not using the contour palettes highlight, you can find me using the NYX Strobe of Genius palette (available at Shoppers Drug Mart, but not online with them). It is great, the palette comes with 7 different highlight colours that look gorgeous on any skin colour, type, texture, you name it. The palette is also super versatile, as you can use it for shadows too!
I love the Essence Make Me Brow (available at Shoppers Drug Mart, but not online with them), especially because it has fibres in it to help make your brows look more full. It is an amazing alternative to the Benefit Gimme Brow, especially considering it has almost the exact same wand, product and packaging for three quarters of the price. It lasts all day and helps keep your brows in place. It is easy to use and works well with other products underneath it, such as a pomade or a pencil.
And finally, to top off an easy, drugstore makeup look, is a classic, bold, red lip. I have had this Rimmel London lipstick for a few years, but always reach back to it when I want to rock a bold, red lip. It is matte and doesn’t bleed into the lines or cracks around your lips. It lasts all day long, even with eating and drinking things throughout the day. It doesn’t dry your lips out either, which is a major plus.
And there you have it! Highlighting Maybelline, NYX, Rimmel, and Essence! All of these products are available at Shoppers Drug Mart, but may be linked here to different stores (Walmart) or their main websites. What are your favourite drugstore products? Let me know in the comments below!
